Good Friday Reminds Me I’m Not the One Holding It All Together

In ministry, there’s always something that needs attention.

A budget that’s tight. A volunteer team that’s stretched. A decision that’s overdue. A weight you’re carrying quietly because that’s what leaders do, right?

But then Good Friday comes. And it stops us.

It reminds us that the most important work that ever happened didn’t need our permission or our planning.

The Cross Is Not a Leadership Strategy

Jesus didn’t gather a strategic planning committee before He went to the cross. He didn’t run a forecast. He didn’t ask for a vote of confidence from His followers.

He simply obeyed.

Good Friday is not about action steps. It’s about surrender. It’s about watching the One who held everything and then chose to be broken.

For us.

And it hits me, every year, that I spend so much time trying to hold it all together. The finances. The people. The expectations. The outcomes.

But I’m not the one who carries the weight of the world. He already did.

It’s Okay to Stop

If you're feeling pressure today, let me say it plainly. You can stop. For a moment. For a breath. For a prayer.

The ministry will still be there tomorrow. But today is sacred.

Let the silence speak. Let the grief settle. Let the weight fall off your shoulders and onto the One who already carried it up a hill for you.

Final Thought

You don’t have to fix everything. Not today. Maybe not ever.

The cross reminds us that we are not in control. And that is not a threat. It’s a gift.

Because the One who is in control loves you enough to die for you.

So rest in that.

On this Good Friday, remember this truth:
You are not the one holding it all together.
You never were.
And you don’t have to be.
